Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens and this National Park is part of a larger story. Located in Ward 7, the Gardens are positioned on the ancestral homeland of the Nacotchtank (Anacostan) and Piscataway Conoy People. As such, we partnered with Hope Butler, an enrolled member of the Piscataway Conoy who serves on the Board of Directors for Indigenous Vision. She provides in this video a Land Acknowledgment, a statement that formally recognizes the historical and continuing connection between the waters, animals and indigenous peoples – the original stewards of these lands. Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens respectfully acknowledges the rich culture and contributions of all indigenous communities— past, present and future.
