Community Spotlight- Junel Jeffrey, Eastland Garden Civic Association President
Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens visitors come from all over the world – especially when it’s peak bloom time. But there are also folks who visit the park regularly, no matter what the season, like the Gardens’ neighbors. Junel Jeffrey is one of them! She has been an Eastland Gardens resident for two years and serves as the Eastland Gardens Civic Association (EGCA) President, helping to keep residents connected with DC’s news and resources, and observing and collecting community concerns. Junel is also an Army Lt. Col. and director of public affairs for Army Personnel, Manpower & Reserve Affairs. When she’s not busy with those posts, neighbors can find Junel at both Kenilworth Park and Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens – and her dog, Selah, always leads the way. Learn about Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens champions Junel and Selah:
Q: What do you love most about Eastland Gardens?
A: It’s a toss-up between the neighbors and Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens.
Q: There’s Eastland Gardens, Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, lots of mention of gardens in the neighborhood. Are you a gardener?
A: I believe I am, but others will say no because I don’t know what I’m doing. But I say yes because I have the tools. The ones I use most are my hose or my gloves.
Q: What does Selah love most about the community?
A: I think she would say the neighbors because that would include her best friend up the street, a big black dog named Serious.
Q: What would you tell the neighbors of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens?
You will be surprised at what you can see there, and what you’ll learn that you maybe didn’t know was there. Visit and explore, and be amazed!
