Title: A Summer to Remember – VISTA Summer Associate

Location: Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens (1550 Anacostia Ave NE, Washington, DC 20019)
Organization: Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens (FoKAG)
Term: June 1 – August 9, 2026 (approx. 300 hours)

Position Summary
Spend your summer making a real impact at one of DC’s most unique National Parks. The Summer VISTA Associate will help bring Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens to life—supporting evening operations, energizing community programming, and contributing to fundraising efforts. This hands-on role offers the chance to engage visitors, build programs, and create meaningful connections between people and nature. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support National Park Service staff during extended evening hours to ensure a welcoming visitor experience
  • Help plan, coordinate, and evaluate “Come Alive After 5” programming
  • Assist with event logistics, outreach, and community activities
  • Support FoKAG’s 18th Anniversary fundraising campaign
  • Gather feedback to help strengthen programs and impact

Qualifications

  • Interest in environmental stewardship, community engagement, or nonprofit work
  • Strong communication skills and comfort engaging with the public
  • Organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work independently and on a team
  • Willingness to work outdoors with diverse communities
  • Must meet AmeriCorps eligibility requirements
