New Year, New Faces: Meet Our New Board Members

Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens’ board chair, Justin Lini, welcomes new board members and returning staff members. 

Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens is pleased to announce four new board members! We look forward to working together to help shape meaningful, memorable and regular(!) visits at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens for you. Meet our new members below: 

Gina Geffrard is a statistician with the federal government and resides in Ward 7. When not planning and implementing national surveys, Gina volunteers with various DC non-profits is active in her church and enjoys running and cycling through Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens.

Eddie Gonzalez is a nonprofit professional skilled at helping organizations achieve strategic impact. His background includes conservation, youth engagement, partnerships, workforce development, fundraising, and education. He is an avid kayaker with a deep appreciation for the ecological, historical, and cultural significance of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens.

Craig Leen is an attorney and former public official who focuses on employment, civil rights, and DEIA initiatives. He loves coming to Kenilworth Aquatic Garden year-round with his daughter Alex, who is profoundly autistic and enjoys the colors, sounds, and scents of the gardens.

Chanda Washington is a communications professional who has worked in the public sector for almost ten years, including as a public affairs leader in parks and recreation. She enjoys spending as much time as possible outdoors and is excited to help support the amazing Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens.  

In addition to four new board members, Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens is pleased to announce new staff positions. After serving the last year as AmeriCorps VISTA volunteers with Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, Shannah Cumberbatch and Megan Singleton join us as full-time staff members. We are so glad to have them.

Shannah will be our Volunteer & Program Coordinator. Shannah will continue to lead and coordinate our amazing volunteers who help pick up trash, tend to the ponds, and maintain the trails. Shannah will also manage our WELLderness program, engaging our neighbors and visitors in wellness classes like yoga, forest bathing, art therapy, and tai chi.

Megan will be our Development & Marketing Coordinator. Megan will keep you updated with all the latest events and opportunities and help foster a cadre park donors and champions.

Please join us in welcoming Gina, Eddie, Craig, and Chanda to the Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens Board and in congratulating Shannah and Megan in their new staff roles!
